We are pleased to announce that the Inca 2.01 production release is now
available on the Inca web site at:

http://inca.sdsc.edu/www/releases/2.01release.html

The 2.01 production release provides substantial improvements over Inca 1
with respect to security, installation and maintenance, storage capabilities,
and data display. It provides the following new features:

  • Centralized configuration and a new GUI tool called incat that
automatically deploys Inca clients and reporters to Grid resources. Incat
allows an Inca deployment to easily adapt to new resources and testing
    requirements.
  • Reporter repositories that consist of reporters, required packages and
libraries, and a catalog file. Repository contents are accessible using a URL
and can be shared across multiple Inca deployments.
  • Full report archiving so that test result history (especially any error
messages) can be used to understand the behavior of services and Grids over
    time.
  • Comparison of Inca reports to a specification (e.g., version requirement)
    that optionally trigger email notification.
  • SSL communication between Inca components.
  • Automatic restart of Inca resource clients if client failure is detected
(e.g. due to a system restart).
  • Short-term proxy retrieval from a MyProxy server for Inca reporters that
require GSI credentials and proxy destruction after reporter completion .
Long-term proxy credentials on resources are no longer required.
  • Inca reporter system usage profiling and logging to allow administrators
to evaluate the system impact of testing on resources.
  • Flexible data display in Inca Web status pages using JSP and XSL.

Please email inca@sdsc.edu with any feedback, questions, or problems
related to the release or for help in getting started with Inca on your
Grid.

Future enhancements for Inca include:

  • Graphs and summary statistics to better understand Grid reliability and
    performance data
  • Limited system administrators privileges for re-running reporters and
    accepting configuration changes
  • Detection and recovery from Inca server failures
  • Application test suite incorporation into existing Inca deployments
  • Knowledge base feature that suggests solutions for detected
    problems

Thank you,

The Inca Team
